Background:
The school was built in 1692 funded by Richard Durning's inheritance. Its listed building is set in a rural landscape at the foot of Bannister Brow in the township of Bispham. The original building was extended in 1940 and 1967 and was completely refurbished in 1989. The school has audio-visual and computer equipment as well as a several libraries. There is a hall with large PE apparatus, and three class bases including a 'bright, spacious' infant room. Pupils participate in a clay club, netball, ball skills, cross-country, recorder groups and French in Years 5 and 6. The school participates in local district tournaments in football, netball, rounders, unihoc and cricket. There is a 'thriving' chess team which has won the small schools league for the past eight years. Children are offered the opportunity to participate in violin, guitar and woodwind tuition, and Year 6 children take part in outdoor activity holidays. The school raises money for three or four different charities each year. Pupils perform music for senior citizens in the village and distribute harvest gifts. This school is a warm, friendly place with a strong family feeling. Relationships are good with all and every one is valued and respected.
