Opened on present 18-acre site in 1962 after two years occupying nearby grammar school; accommodation includes learning resource centre, chapel, ICT rooms, art rooms and resource area, careers reference library, 13 acres of playing fields, a floodlit all-weather games pitch, sports hall, gymnasium, lecture theatre, drama theatre, seven science laboratories, dining hall with cafeteria systems, pottery room, food technology area, craft, design, technology suite, music studio and practice rooms, media studies and television facilities, and a textile technology room. The school is strongly Catholic. Curriculum strengths include art, drama, music, English, science, and second and third modern languages. Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme. Many opportunities for pupils to take part in visits of a cultural, educational or social nature, including visits to theatres, museums, field work, fieldwork trips, and residential art weekends.
