Background:

Great Eccleston Copp CofE Primary School was established in 1871 by a trust that continues to provide financial and other support. The school building includes seven classrooms, a library, small group room, a multi activity hall and kitchen. A new ICT suite and quite room were added in 2006. It has been extended and improved several times with major extensions completed in 1985, 1986 and 1990 to accommodate rising numbers. There is a large playground, a playing field and a car park adjacent to the school. The school was awarded permanent with European Eco School Status in December 2002 in recognition of its commitment to environmental teaching and work. It provides extra-curricular activities such as recorders, keyboard tuition, short tennis, football, dance, French and handbell ringing. In addition to serving the immediate area, the school attracts pupils' from as far as Poulton, Blackpool, Inskip and Broughton. Copp School became a friendly school for the Lancashire Healthy School's Programme in June 2006. The school is the first primary school in Lancashire to achieve this. It has two Learning Excellence Awards and an Active Sports Mark. Great Eccleston Copp Church of England Primary School provides a 'friendly, caring, ordered environment in which children can learn, become more independent and grow in confidence and self-esteem'.
