Background:
Burnley Holy Trinity Church of England Primary School was opened in 1973 as a replacement for the original school, built in 1869, but closed due to fire damage in 1969. The classroom facilities have been improved by screening, enlarging and by adding a new classroom. Although basic skills have always been at the heart of the curriculum the school also offers a wide selection of extra-curricular activities. The chess club has more than 50 members of which several have been successful in winning the under-11 and under-9 local championships. The choir is also 'a strength of the school' and competed in Schoolsong 2000 in November. Community links have been developed through the local council enabling the school to work with the local ranger service. There has also been a tree planting project and a wildlife garden has been developed in the school grounds. There is a local parents association and the community play scheme also uses the premises weekly.
