Background:

Opened in 1989 to serve the Clayton-le-Woods area to the south of Preston, the school occupies a 'modern', single storey building situated within mature woodland. The school population has been growing quickly and it is able to offer before and after school childcare. The school achieved Beacon status on its 10th birthday in September 1999. It sees itself as 'particularly successful at supporting children from a wide variety of backgrounds and providing challenging work for especially able pupils'. 1999 was the school's most successful sporting year when senior girls won three skittleball trophies and badminton teams were runners up in league competitions. Community links have allowed children to be coached by Bolton Wanderers football club. The school feels parents should be involved in education and focuses on 'sharing' the process. The 'active' parent teachers and friends association provides opportunities such as a hobbies morning to broaden pupils' interests. Extra-curricular activities include a French club, guitar lessons, the school choir, an information and communications technology club and visits to Germany and outdoor activity centres. Children support a number of charities.
