Background:
Summerseat Methodist Primary School founded in 1840 to serve the children of the mill working community in a semi-rural environment within the village of Summerseat. The present building was opened in 1863. The catchment area is mixed but consists mainly of private housing. The school has been developed and modernised over the years although it still values its cultural links with the past. Christian values have an influence on the school's ethos and it also promotes co-operation and support with the Rowlands Methodist Church community. Pupils' can take part in extra-curricular sports and music clubs and the school is proud of the thriving Friends Association, which organises many successful fund-raising events for school funds and charities. The school aims to educate pupils intellectually, socially, morally, aesthetically, physically and spiritually, based on Christian principles.
