Background:

Founded in 1825, the present school building has been open for 25 years. This is a modern facility on an 'attractive' site overlooking Duxbury woods. There are separate infant and junior playgrounds as well as a large playing field. St George's is concerned to educate 'faithful and caring Christians' to a 'very high' standard. Parents are encouraged to have an 'active and thoughtful' role. A full range of extra-curricular activities is offered, including football, skittle ball, rounders, athletics, cross-country running, choir, guitar lessons, art club, information and communications technology club, and a quiz league. Notable sporting achievements have been made in football, swimming and running. Charity fundraising is 'encouraged'. Recently this was for the Malcolm Sergeant Cancer Fund, the National Institute for the Blind, and the Church of England National Society for Children. Exceptional awards include a 'credit award' from the South Lancashire Health Promoting School Award and an award from the borough council for caring for the school environment.
