Background:
St Andrew's School opened in the present main building in 1872, on land given by the Grant family in the midst of a fast-growing, valley community. The school is situated adjacent to St Andrew's Church at the junction of Bolton Street and Nuttall Lane. The Grant family built the Church in 1834 in connection with the Presbyterian Church in Scotland. There are eight classrooms, a shared teaching area, a library, a study room, a large hall and an award-winning wildlife area with pond. Sports include football, netball, rounders, cricket, swimming, cross-country running, gymnastics and badminton. The school aims to achieve a happy and lively place to learn and grow where the fullest potential of all the children can be developed.
