Background:

St Peter's Church of England Primary School is situated in the village of Simonstone in the Ribble Valley. This small school is around 110 years old. It serves the village and the suburbs of the nearby towns of Padiham and Accrington. The school is housed in two buildings, the oldest of which dates back to its foundation and acts as the Church of St Peters as well as the school and village hall. The second building dates from 1975 and is set in 'extensive' grounds with a school field conservation area, a pond, two adventure playgrounds and a meadow area. A 'thriving' conservation club has helped to develop different areas within the grounds. The school participates in local football, cross-country, rounder and netball competitions and swimming galas. Children learn to swim and compete for the Amateur Swimming Association Awards and those of the Royal Lifesaving Society. There is a 'strong' musical tradition with two concerts per year. The school offers recorder groups and clarinet, flute and fife lessons. Parents and the community provide 'strong support' to the life of the school and an active' friends association organises social and fundraising activities. A friendly, caring environment where children can develop their talents as a result of the broad based curriculum on offer.
