Background:
Founded in 1940, the 'secure and happy' school serves a residential area in Penwortham, on the fringe of Preston. Three separate buildings stand in 'very pleasant' grounds which contain 'generous' sports fields. Every classroom has a computer and colour printer. The 'rich and broad' curriculum focuses on raising academic achievements, while catering for individual needs. Year 6 pupils learn French and some German as part of a European week. Most classes take part in three educational visits every year to complement their learning, and Year 6 pupils can participate in an activity week. Children can receive individual tuition in guitar and woodwind. All teachers run extra-curricular activities, and 'strong' netball and football teams play in local inter-school competitions. The school hall and grounds are used by several community groups. Staff aim to promote a 'real and meaningful partnership' with parents. The 'extremely dedicated and hard-working' parent-teacher association raises funds for school facilities. Children are encouraged to donate to local and national charities at Christmas.
