Background:

Lostock Hall Primary was created in 1993 by the amalgamation of the former Lostock Hall Infant and Junior Schools, and the creation of a new nursery unit. The 'very active' school occupies a split-site, its two units situated 500 metres apart. The Avondale unit was built at the beginning of the 20th century and offers two halls, community room, library, extensive playing fields, large playground, the nursery and classrooms for children up to Year 2. Situated on the same site as Lostock Hall High, the Linden unit is an open-plan building constructed in the 1970s and accommodates children from Years 3 to 6. It offers a well-equipped hall, library, resource areas, a music and television room, playing fields and playgrounds. There is a 'strong commitment' to curricum development and the school has acted as a demonstration school for literacy. The literacy coordinator is also a Leading Literacy Teacher. A wide range of extra-curricular activites is offered. The school enjoys 'well-established'links with the local community and has initiated a number of successful parental involvment activities. An after-school care club runs from 3.10pm to 5.30pm, and there are also breakfast and holiday clubs. The school has achieved Investors in People status.
