Background:
In 1960, two Victorian schools, a boys and a girls school were joined together to form Longridge CofE Primary. It is now housed in 'fairly new' accommodation and sited in the middle of the town, with a field and a wildlife garden. The school has 'welcomed the national curriculum as an extension of work already undertaken by pupils' and it offers a full, balanced and broadly based curriculum in addition to a 'wide range' of extra-curricular activities including recorders, netball, football, rugby, short tennis, cricket, art, needlecraft and food technology. School teams take part in the Preston and Ribble Valley schools sporting events. The school also has an 'excellent' choir, which has been involved with BBC radio events. Pupils have established links with a similar school in Wisconsin, USA, and keep in regular contact via e-mails and faxes. The school encourages pupils to take part in local community events such as the Agricultural Show, the Chamber of Trade Late Night Shopping Evening and parish events. The school has 'strong links' with the parish of St Lawrence and St Paul, and is 'actively' involved in the life of the church. There is an 'active' parent-teacher-friends association which raises funds, promotes home-school links, and takes part in community events. Pupils are encouraged to raise money for charity and the school supports a variety of appeals each year.
