Background:

St Michael's School was first established in 1885 but moved into a newly-opened building in 1985. The school is situated in the centre of Kirkham and serves a mixed catchment area. The school offers a wide range of extra-curricular activities including football, netball athletics, cross-country, maths clubs, instrument tuition, French, drama and gardening clubs. St Michael's is keen to promote European awareness among pupils and aims to study and visit a European country each year. The school has a very supportive and active friends association, which organises social events to help raise extra funds. Pupils visit residents of the local old people's home and nursing home, and church links are also strong. Links with local industry are also being developed with the new Safeway supermarket. Each year pupils support one charity, which have included the NSPCC, RNIB, Macmillan Cancer Relief, Barnados. The school believes that each child is unique and is committed to ensuring that every child gets the education that is best for them, not only in terms of the knowledge and skills they need, but also in helping them to be thoughtful, caring individuals who can work and learn both independently and cooperatively.
