Background:
Gisburn Primary School is situated in a rural area of Lancashire. It serves quite a large geographical district. It still occupies its original building dating from the late 19th century with a hall, office, new servery, classroom and stockroom built in 1994. Outdoor facilities include two large tarmac playgrounds and an extensive playing field. The school is a member of the Ribble Valley Primary Schools Sports Association and participates regularly in netball, football, rounders and swimming fixtures. All junior children learn to play the recorder and peripatetic teachers offer tuition in trumpet, cornet, horn, trombone and keyboard. In addition to the National Curriculum many extra-curricular activities are offered. Pupils' in Year 6 have the opportunity to participate in a residential visit. Previous visits have included Tower Wood, Winmarleigh and Windermere where pupils' can experience canoeing, abseiling, climbing, caving, orienteering and other challenging activities. The school'supports many charities including Barnardos, Children in Need, Comic Relief and Operation Christmas Child. The school aims to provide a full and varied education and encourage all children to develop their talent and interest to the full.
