Background:

St Michael's is an infant and junior Church of England school in the Diocese of Liverpool. The school was founded in 1838 and moved to its present location in 1971, where it serves a residential area of Aughton on the outskirts of Ormskirk. The school has extensive grounds including a nature area and nature trail. A major extension to the building was completed in 1998, when the main building was also remodelled. Pupils are involved in extra-curricular activities including art club, chess, choir, instrumental tuition, football, netball, cricket, gardening, craft and a quiz club. Children are also encouraged to aspire to succeed in sporting activities. Children in every year-group have access to computers and information and ICT is taught both through the curriculum and as a subject in its own right. Community links exist with Aughton Parish council and other local schools and there are very strong links with St Michael's Church. Pupils are encouraged to think of others less fortunate than themselves and money is raised for local, national and international charities, particularly during religious festivals. The school aims to provide an excellent education, giving a high priority to the spiritual development of all in the school community.
