Background:

Founded in the late nineteenth century, this 'well respected' school is situated in Longridge, one of the main market towns in the Ribble Valley. It was originally called 'The British School' and only moved to its current location in 1969. The school'strives to meet pupils' individual needs and teaches them 'the art of living and learning in society'. A nature area was established several years ago, incorporating a pond, wild area and woodland area. There is a 'large' playing field behind the main building with 'extensive' views of the Bowland Fells. The school participates in various sporting activities, representing the North-West in the National Swimming Championships in 1998 and winning the Preston Primary Gymnastics Trophy for three years running. The school is proud of the various after school activities available, ranging from stamp club to nature club to French. Tuition is also offered in violin, cello, double bass, brass and woodwind. Years 5 and 6 can attend school camp at the end of the summer term and pupils are involved in 'many' community activities and functions. The involvement of parents in school life is welcomed and the school strives to create a 'home-school partnership'.
