Background:
Opened in 1951, the school occupies a single-storey building offering a kitchen on site, dining room, hall and separate playgrounds for Reception, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 children. It is situated adjacent to Leverhulme Park off the A58, the main Bury to Bolton road. Pupils come from a mixture of owner-occupied and council property, and 10% of them are non-Catholics. Sports offered at the school include football, netball, rounders, cross-country, swimming, athletics, cricket and gymnastics. St Osmund's was the 30th most improved school in the country and the 10th best school in Bolton metro in 2000, and has received a DFeS achievement award in recognition of this. The school has close links with the parish community and church.
