Background:
Standish Community High School opened 28 years ago to serve the village of Standish in Wigan. It is a mixed comprehensive of 1260 pupils and it is the first specialist language college in the northwest. As the school has grown so have the facilities which are amongst the best in Wigan. Specialist art, technology, science and modern languages rooms are complemented by high quality ICT facilities with interactive whiteboards in most rooms. The school has extensive sports facilities including a new full-sized floodlit artificial football pitch. The school has two music rooms and two drama studios as well as an interactive modern languages facilities used widely by other schools. The school provides a broad balanced curriculum as well as wide range of lunchtime and after school activities. The school aims to give pupils an equality of esteem to fulfil their potential, personally, socially and academically within a rewarding and stimulating community school environment.
