Background:

Pendle Primary was built in 1932. It is situated in Clitheroe and draws its pupils from the town and surrounding villages. A large proportion of pupils come from homes where English is not the first language, and the school is 'nearly always' oversubscribed with approximately 55 applications for 45 places. The school enjoys the 'excellent facilities' offered by Clitheroe Cricket Club. These include a cricket field, cricket nets and all-weather tennis facilities. Extra-curricular activities include choir, recorder, orchestra, guitars, hockey, netball and football. Peripatetic teachers visit the school to give instructions to musically able children for violin, cello, flute, clarinet and brass instruments. Pendle 'excels' at sport. The girls netball teams regularly win Ribble Valley school tournaments and the boys cricket team reached the final in a recent kwik cricket tournament. Charity fundraising takes place at both national and local levels. Pendle 'enjoys an enviable reputation locally', the school choir sings for the community and invites them to attend school productions. 'The purpose of Pendle School is to develop to the full each individual pupil's talents, abilities and self confidence within a caring, ordered and stimulating educational environment'.
