Background:

Clifton County Primary opened in 1967. The building was destroyed by fire in 1991 and rebuilt and opened again in 1993. The new building is 'very colourful' and 'child friendly' with all paintwork in primary colours. The school has a varied catchment area, and due to the popularity of the school another classroom has been added. The school campus is 'very attractive' with a large grassed area with mature trees, shrubs and picnic benches and two hard play areas. The school takes 'great pride' in its environment and has been successful in achieving a hat-trick last year, by winning the Flyde in Bloom trophy for schools and colleges for the previous three years. Pupils were also the winners of the local cricket and football trophies. The school is proud to enter all sporting, musical and art competitions in the area, even when they are not successful. It has a tradition of 'strong links' with the local community. The school choir was selected to sing at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester in a nationwide musical celebration of the millennium, Schoolsong 2000. The school encourages pupils to raise money for charity and 'always gets a good response'. There is a 'successful' parent help scheme, as well as an 'active' parent-teacher association. In addition to a pre-school group, Clifton Primary is proud to have been the 'first school in the area to establish an after school club'. Many extra-curricular activities are offered including choir, orchestra, athletics, netball, football, cricket, recorder club, guitar club and clarinet and flute tuition. The school aims to 'bring out the best in each and every child and the whole school community - pupils, staff, parents and governors - work together to ensure a secure, challenging, learning environment for all pupils'.
