Opened in 1841, the school occupies a large site incorporating three quite distinct blocks. 'Extensive and well maintained' grounds provide an 'attractive learning environment'. The buildings themselves are a mixture of old and new, 'reflecting in many ways the school's attitude to education'. The school's extra-curricular provision is 'broad and extensive', ranging from sport to drama, music, design technology and needlework among others. The school has 'extensive' links with the local community through its church and PTFA. The school has an 'open door' policy.
