Background:

Situated on the western side of the rural market town of Ormskirk, the school opened in the early 1960s. Almost half of the current pupils live in houses on Ormskirk's largest council estate, which contains an area of 'very high social deprivation'. The school offers an atmosphere that is 'warm, welcoming, happy and industrious'. All classrooms have computers and printers, and internet access is offered. 'The children are relaxed and lively, and we know that our standards of achievement are high.' A specialist teacher is available to assist children with special educational needs or those who are especially able. Working parents can send their children to the after-school club, where they use computers, play sports or do homework. Other extra curricular activities include gardening, French and choir. An 'active, positive partnership' with parents is sustained through the Friends' Association. The school continues to promote its 'tradition of good behaviour, good manners and good fun!' .
