Background:

Ormskirk School was formed in September 2001 by an amalgamation of Ormskirk Grammar School and Ormskirk Cross High School. In September 2004, the school moved into a brand new school building, designed to the school's specifications with particular emphasis on learning. The new school building offers outstanding facilities: all-weather Astroturf pitch, recording studio, professional standard lighting and sound equipment in the main auditorium and impressive learning resource centre together with major investment in new learning technologies (over 900 computers, highly advanced network, an RM exemplar school). The school was been designated a specialist virtual and performing arts college with effect from September 2005, which will improve its already impressive facilities and further strengthen the school's links with its primary partners and the school community. The school recognises excellence, takes many forms and serves for all types. It offers a wide range of extra-curricular activities including: football, netball, hockey, cricket, athletics, swimming, rugby and cross-country. The school provides various opportunities to enhance the learning of pupils. The school aims to develop a professional learning community where everything is done to allow effective learning.
