Background:

The school was opened in 1915 and, until 1994, shared its building with the Year 7 pupils of Haslingden High School. In 1994 the building was completely refurbished and it now provides an 'excellent range' of facilities including a stage with a 'fully computerised' lighting system, 'fully equipped' gymnasium and a designated early years area. The building is 'spacious and equipped to a high standard'. The school offers a broad and balanced curriculum based on the core subjects of the national curriculum, and is 'underpinned by a belief that each child should strive to produce his or her best'. Haslingden is proud of its 'tradition in music', operating three choirs and an orchestra, and it has been 'regular' winners at the Rossendale Music Festival. The school runs a 'wide range' of extra-curricular activities including recorders, science, football, cricket, netball, rounders, cross country, athletics, handball, and book clubs. The school is currently the England primary schools handball champion. A Wednesday club invites future pupils and parents into fortnightly pre-school sessions. The school has 'close links' with the community and memebers of the local community make use of school facilities out of school hours. All parents are automatic memebers of the friends association, which organises a number of activities and fund raising events throughout the year.
