Background:

Founded in the 1960s, it is one of only two junior schools in Tameside and one of only two Methodist schools in the Greater Manchester district. It occupies a building dating from the early 1970's in a delightful, semi-rural setting opposite Hartshead High School, on the outskirts of Ashton-under-Lyne. 'Excellent' facilities include a large hall, modern library, pottery kiln and 'extensive' playing fields. The school has a 'strong commitment to quality teaching and learning', espeically in English and maths, but is also 'very keen' to involve all the children in the expressive arts, notably music, dance and drama. More than 100 pupils sing in the school choirs, which have performed at the renowned Lowry Centre. The school has also achieved 'outstanding success' with its football team, and offers many extra-curricular activities and clubs. Links with Hurst Methodist Church are 'strong' and the school is very proud of its Christian ethos.
