Background:

The Deanery High School was founded in 1970 on the site of two Church of England schools, which had been in existence since 1932. The buildings reflect this history - a brick built 1932 block, a 1970 extension and two later blocks (1987 and 1994). There is an all-weather pitch but the playing fields are off-site. Much success over the years in rugby league, netball and girl's athletics, and a strong tradition of musicals (including Gilbert and Sullivan). The school enters a lot of competitions in science and public speaking and pupils and staff are engaged in a wide range of extra-curricular and social activities. There is an old folks party every Christmas, the school's media bus is attracting national attention, and charity links are strong. The school's specialism is Technology and it has a wide ranging programme of primary technology links. The school is at the forefront nationally in terms of ICT developments. A school is engaged in the pursuit of excellence where the purposeful teaching takes place in a friendly, positive and business like ethos and where students are introduced to the widest possible range of learning and recreational experiences.
