Background:

Situated in the heart of a large council estate on a greenfield site, Holy Family RC Primary occupies a 1960s brick building overlooking Rochdale towards the Yorkshire hills. The curriculum is delivered through 'a mixture of modern and traditional' teaching methods and staff encourage a 'happy helpful environment for learning'. Music is highlighted as a 'strength of the school', promoted through a choir, brass group and guitar group. The headteacher organises rugby league in Rochdale primary schools and the game is 'very strong here'. The school won the area cup in 1999 for the third time in eight years. Year 6 pupils can participate in an extended visit to Nab Farm, a residential outdoor activity centre on the moors outside Rochdale. A parents' group raises funds for school facilities and pupils collect money for local and national charities. 'Strong links' are maintained with the parish and with neighbouring schools. The school has recently been granted Investors in People status. 'All our children, parents, teachers, staff and Governors are members of OUR Holy Family. We try to be close and support each other'.
