Background:

Dating back to the 1800s when it was a small, two teacher village school, Clayton-le-Woods is set in the beautiful Cuerdon Valley Nature Park and has open aspects from every classroom. Additional classrooms were added in the 1950s to house the growing numbers of children in the local area. Facilities include three main teaching blocks, a large hall, three playgrounds, a large playing field, grassy areas, a wilderness area and a small pond. Extra-curricular activities include badminton, chess, classical music, cricket, Christian club, choir, recorders, orchestra, violin, guitar, computers, rounders, football, French, skittleball, rugby and wind band. Children are involved in a variety of fundraising activities for charities such as Jeans for Genes, Sue Ryder, RNLI and Help the Aged.
