Opened in 1968; situated in semi-rural setting on border of Oldham and Rochdale; views of the Pennines enhance extensive grounds, which include well-established nature reserve and pond. Over-subscribed, with 1.6 applications per place. Development priorities are literacy, numeracy and citizenship. School aims to provide an environment which will foster 'self-respect, self-discipline, confidence and motivation'. Works closely with local community through initiatives such as harvest festival and police visits; pays particular attention to links with local churches. Sport is encouraged both during and after school: football, netball, cricket and rounders. Extra-curricular: drama, recorders, Scrabble, computer and nature clubs. Developing thinking skills and French across the school. DfES achievement award. Ethos: 'Caring and supportive; respect, love and tolerance are the foundations of our activities'.
