Background:
Bury and Whitefield Jewish Primary School was established in 1984, with its aims being drawn up by the Spear Trust (Jewish Educational Development Fund), as a voluntary aided co-educational one-form entry primary school, catering for Halachically Jewish children from three to 11 years old. Children are taught in three Key Stages - Foundation Stage, Unit, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 - all national curriculum subjects and Jewish studies and Hebrew reading and writing, also Modern Hebrew. It is a single-storey building with large well-resourced classrooms and separate ICT suite; set in attractive grounds with large playing field and hard play areas. The school offers wide range of extra-curricular activities include: drama, chess, computers, football, netball, and week's residential outdoor pursuit course for years 5 and 6 pupils. The school has strong links with the community, fundraising and shared events for local charities. The school provides caring, welcoming secure environment, where all children feel a sense of belonging, are motivated to work to the best of their ability, where their unique needs and achievements are recognised, within a framework of teaching Judaism according to Halacha and promoting Jewish values, faith and heritage.
