Background:

The school was founded in 1962 and is set in extensive grounds. Its buildings were extended in the 1970s. A new performing arts block was opened in 2000 offering a drama studio, performing studio and music room. The school also has its own swimming pool, which is marketed extensively to the community and local primary schools. A new sports hall was added in September 2004. As a Technology College, the school is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and learning resources. French and German are compulsory in Key Stage 3 and all pupils take modern foreign languages to GCSE. CAD/CAM has been introduced into the newly refurbished technology workshop. Computers are extensively used in the mathematics and science departments. All subject departments are equipped with interactive whiteboard technology. The school offers 'Scantek', the integrated learning program for technology, and extensively refurbished technology facilities for food. Sports include football, rugby, basketball, hockey, netball, athletics, tennis and cricket. Drama, music, art, ICT, gardening and environment are among the extra-curricular activities. The school organizes varied trips to museums, galleries, theatre and other places of interest as well as holidays to France and Germany.
