Background:

Opened in 1968, the school lies on the northern outskirts of Poulton-Le-Fylde, within the Breck Ward. Very few children live close to the school as the local population consists predominantly of retired people but its 'excellent reputation ensures a steady intake of pupils'. The school is situated in 'beautiful, well maintained grounds' with two large playing fields, a wildlife area containing a pond, meadow area and orchard, and a variety of other environments. New developments for 1999-2000 have included a millennium recreational area, creating quieter areas outside the playground. The school provides an 'excellent all round education' for its pupils with full coverage of the national curriculum subjects. Information and communications technology (ICT) has been targeted as an 'area of major expansion', and there has recently been a 'massive' increase in the number of PCs in the school. The computer club gives pupils access to computers at lunchtime and this has greatly increased the use of the machines. Extra-curriculuar activities include hockey, netball, soccer, rugby union, and rugby league and the school takes part in competitions and leagues. The school hosts the district sports and mini rugby league competition open to all schools in the North West, which has been accomplished through 'successful links' with local industry. There are 'strong links' with Fleetwood Rugby Union Football Club and the school is able to compete against 'some of the largest primary schools in the country and the private sector'. The arts are also supported at the school and there is a 'thriving' music club. Peripatetic music lessons are also offered for a range of instruments. The school has 'strong links' with local industries and the local high school and college. Pupils are encouraged to raise funds for charity and several appeals are supported annually.
