Background:

Situated in a semi-rural location, approximately four miles east of Preston, the building is about 30 years old, modern and in 'good repair'. It has a hall, seven classrooms, resource areas, two stock rooms, a music area, two libraries, and office and headteacher's room as well as 'spacious' grounds. The school is 'highly regarded' by local teacher training institutions and has entered into partnership with Edge Hill, Ormskirk. It has a 'thriving diary' of extra-curricular activities and a positive parental involvement programme. Community links are 'strong' and are 'based on mutual respect and support'. Extra-curricular activities include individual and team sports such as athletics, running, badminton, football and skittleball. In some of these sports school teams participate in tournaments against other schools in the district. 'The school aims to promote a positive ethos within a safe and happy working environment, where effective learning can take place. Within this framework of support and respect, children are encouraged to show good manners and tolerance, to be polite and self-disciplined and to aim to achieve their full potential.'NB: This school was demolished by fire in May 2001. It is expected to be rebuilt.
