Background:
Abbey Village Primary School is a primary school for boys and girls. The age range of the pupils is five to 11. The main building of the school was one hundred years old in 2003 and retains a lot of its old charm. In the main building there are three classrooms and a hall, which interconnect. There is also a general purpose area, which is used for assemblies, physical education lessons and a dining room and as a venue for playgroup and the after-school care scheme. This building also houses a well-stocked library and a stage, which enjoys full lighting. The school also benefits from a well-appointed demountable classroom, which houses the fourth class and a recently refurbished drama and music area in the rooms of endeavour. There are two large playgrounds at the rear of the school. There is no playing field on site, but there is a football field within walking distance and facilities at the local cricket club are used in summer. The school building meets all current health and safety requirements while retaining its hundred-year-old charm.
