Background:

Norden is a good and improving school, able to meet the needs of children of all abilities. It was successful in its bid to the DfES for Sports College status, and from September 2004 the school has been officially known as Norden High School and Sports College. The school has excellent art, music and special educational needs facilities, in a pleasant and well-decorated environment. Its ICT facilities continue to be upgraded year on year. Since January 2000, two new purpose-built and equipped science laboratories have been built, and a learning resource centre will be completed in August 2005. A new all-weather pitch was opened in June 2003 and a four-court badminton sports hall will be built and should be ready for use by September 2005. The school'seeks to ensure that all pupils have full access to a range of national curriculum subjects, taught by well qualified specialist teachers. In Key Stage 3, all study a modern foreign language (French or Spanish) and students in Year 9 are given the chance to follow a course in drama. In Years 10 and 11 all pupils have the opportunity to study full course GCSE, short course GCSE or the Junior Sports Leader Award. Pupils study a wide range of skills and sports including football, netball, basketball, gymnastics, dance, handball and athletics. Norden High School has long been recognised as a caring and warm environment in which its pupils thrive. It has gained an excellent reputation for an environment in which all its members can achieve.
