Background:
Markland Hill is housed in a single-storey 1964 building, to which an extra classroom was added in 1994. A new foundation classroom with conservatory and soft play area opened in 2000 and another KS2 classroom will soon be added, to be used as a computer suite. The over-subscribed school is situated in a 'leafy suburb' surrounded by private housing with 'attractive' grounds. Personal computers have been established in all classrooms and the main library has internet access. The school has two games areas available, and plays inter-school matches in football, netball, rounders, cricket and swimming. During the school year, supervised visits are run to places of interest such as farms, galleries, museums, nature reserves and theatres. The school received Investors in People status and the DfEE Excellence Award in 2000.
