Background:
Named after Cardinal William Allen, who had local associations, the school opened in 1963 on an 'attractive, open' site. It was founded to serve the families and parishes of North Fylde in the Diocese of Lancaster. Pupils can receive individual tuition in a musical instrument and visits abroad are offered. Extra-curricular activities include a school choir, foreign language clubs, computers, chess, drama, gymnastics and badminton. Over three-quarters of pupils continue on to Further Education. The school is over-subscribed, with 190 applications for 150 places.
