Background:
All Saints School is situated next to the Parish Church of All Saints, which was founded in 1840. The Vicarage is also adjacent to the church and school sites. Built as a national school to serve the then expanded Victorian township, the school building was re-modelled and extended in the early 1960s and again in 1999. In 2006 the 'Infant Hall' has been re-modelled to create an integrated Foundation Stage area and a new classroom. There are now ten spacious classrooms overlooking the large playing field, wild life area, playground and churchyard. The school's main hall, which is also spacious, serves as the main assembly hall, dining hall and PE area. There is an ICT suite, pottery kiln, library, music room and three resource areas. There is one office for the school administrator as well as a separate reprographics and teacher's resource room. The school has been extended several times in its long history. The latest extension was opened in July 1999 by the Reverend Canon Hall, General Secretary of the Church of England Board of Education and former Director of Education foe the Diocese of Blackburn. This extension incorporates two classrooms and a library overlooking an internal courtyard. Internal alterations were also made involving the enlargement of one classroom and the creation of an Information and Communications Technology suite. The school has an internal network of 34 curriculum computers. These have Internet access through the Lancashire Intranet that safely screens out all unwanted websites. There are 16 PCs in a specially created ICT suite and two banks of PCs adjacent to classrooms. The majority of classrooms are fitted with a projector and interactive whiteboard. In addition there are laptops operating through a wireless system available in all classrooms. All Saints is a Church of England school having at its heart the Christian faith. The school'seeks to communicate an understanding of the redeeming love of Jesus Christ through its sense of community, life and worship. Within this framework, the school aims to develop the whole child, combining maximum educational development with overall fulfillment as human beings.
