Background:

Opened in 1880; extra classrooms and facilities added; most recent were new hall and classroom in 2003; more than £500,000 has been spent on extensions and upgrading since 2001; school environment is now bright, modern and well-equipped. As well as the national curriculum, pupils receive weekly lessons that embrace: health education, citizenship, economic and industrial understanding, environmental awareness, European awareness, global awareness, French, drama, and extra ICT and music. Themed days and week throughout the year, including: festivals, Chinese new year, health week, and Harry Potter day. Extra-curricular activities: netball, football, rounders, ball skills, yoga, computer club, art club, recorders, choir, keyboard, gardening, and mini-aerobics. The school holds tropies in netball, rounders and swimming; it particpates on two local leagues. Charity events throughout the year; aqua boxes given for tsunami appeal; fundraising for Barnardo's. Learning Excellence award (2005); particpates in 'sustaining succes' programme for 550 high-performing schools; DfES achievement award.
